Today, our prison volunteers packaged two boxes of books for the Women's Prison Book Project. It was the combined energy of three area churches in Wilmington, Delaware, which don't officially have a prison ministry. The books will ship this week by Media Mail. Great synergy.

Sounds like a great project. I know we sent a lot of books some years ago to a prison in New England. One of our sisters, Sister Mary Killoran, has been working in Ganderhill Prison (I think it has a different name now) in Wilmington and in Dolores Baylor Prison in Pennsylvania. We did an article on her ministry last year. Right now she is working as a caregiver for her mother.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments. I know Sister Mary personally. She helped train me for the Alternatives to Violence Program (AVP), which I took some years ago at the prison in Chester, Pennsylvania. Gander Hill Prison was renamed from the "Multi-Purpose Criminal Justice Facility" (MPCJF) to "Young Correctional Institution," but it will always be Gander Hill to me. Baylor Women's Correctional Institution is in New Castle, Delaware. It's the only women's prison in the state of Delaware.
